Chelsea have defeated Manchester City in the Champions League final in Porto on Saturday night to win their second-ever CL title.

The Blues secured a hard-earned 1-0 victory in a thrilling encounter at Estadio do Dragao to emerge champions.

After several missed chances by both sides in the early exchanges, with Timo Werner and Phil Foden wasting good opportunities, it was Kai Havertz’ 42nd-minute goal that decided the game.

The win for Chelsea means they now have two Champions League titles, having won their maiden CL title at the Allianz Stadium in the 2012 final.

Senegal goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy also becomes the first African goalkeeper to feature in a Champions League final.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel got the better of his Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola for the third time since arriving Stamford Bridge in January.

Tuchel led his side to a 1-0 victory over Guardiola’s men in the FA Cup semifinal and also pulled off a 2-1 comeback victory in the Premier League against City.

For Tuchel, the Champions League triumph is the first in his coaching career and it came at the detriment of Man City, who had hoped to clinch the title for the first time in history.

Guardiola took a gamble in his starting lineup and it backfired. The Spanish gaffer already has two Champions League titles, which he won with Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester City lost a key player each in the game. While Chelsea had Thiago Silva replaced in the first half after he got a knock, City lost Kevin De Bruyne to injury midway through the second half.

De Bruyne was replaced by Sergio Aguero, who made his final appearance for the club, but there was no fairytale ending for the Argentine as Chelsea held on to their lead, and won the game.
